why porridge bowls?
The idea to call these funny little bowls porridge bowls came from two sources:
1. Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Everyone knows bears love porridge (and so does Robear).
2. The Traditional Porridger. Often given as a keepsake item to commemorate a New Birth gift porridgers were made of silver. At other periods in time they were made of ceramic and featured a double walled construction allowing hot water to fill a chamber between the bowl’s two walls keeping porridge hot longer.I’ve updated the porridge bowl tradition through Robear’sdesign and personality elements--elevating a mushy bowl of gruel to art.
Ritually, a child’s first solid food could be served in this bowl, then displayed on a shelf creating a new family heirloom for future generations. Each unique porridge bowl is made with the idea of creating a future family tradition. The designs feature the four seasons, so depending on when the recipient of this special gift is born, their bowl would correspond to the season of their birth... or your favorite season.
While these pieces are created as keepsake gifts, they are perfectly safe and suitable for daily use, with adult supervision.
As a small boy, I had a cereal bowl with Rocky and Bullwinkle inside. I was continually amazed and thrilled to finish my breakfast and get a glimpse of my favorite characters, waiting patiently at the bottom of my bowl for me every morning. And now Robear will be there for your loved ones.
